In 1999, Konstantia Gourzi founded the ensemble echo at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and conducted it until 2007.
The ensemble echo (today Echo Ensemble) was founded 1997 at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and is one of their educational orchestras. At the time, it was one of the first ensembles for contemporary music at a German conservatory. Konstantia Gourzi was the artistic director of the ensemble for many years and developed several concert series, such as „concerto fresco“ or „Anschläge“. From the beginning, the regularly staged concerts focussed on musical literature from the 20th century and the present for chamber ensemble and chamber orchestra. The main idea for these concerts was to combine and interpret contemporary compositions in a way that they would reflect a bigger cultural or political topic.
Searching for new concert formats and cooperations for ensemble echo, Konstantia Gourzi initiated and caried out projects with institutions such as Konzerthaus Berlin, WDR Cologne, Musikhochschule Hamburg, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Akademie der Künste and Guggenheim Museum Berlin.
