The Project

The ensemble was founded in 2007 by conductor and composer Konstantia Gourzi. The network aims to transcend the barriers of conventional ensembles, orchestras and musical projects, and to establish connections to other art forms and musical genres. This was successfully implemented in the education programme and other projects.

During the early years of the ensemble, a leading idea was that music should be more than the sum of the composed notes. In order to create a special atmosphere for the performances, the musical pieces were worked out in conjunction with other art forms, like lighting, performance art or installations, text, theatre or dance.

Today, opus21musikplus focuses more on new forms of presenting music, while combining different musical genres. It aims to present music as a sensuous experience, irrespective of musical traditions or categories – contemporary, full of joy and imagination.

opus21musikplus has realised projects such as Schönberg Berio Jazz, Philemon und Baucis, time zero, fliegender teppich 2013 – Odyssee, Stationen, Paharión.
