Composer’s Notes

Dance for two was commissioned by Dorothee Oberlinger and Nils Mönkemeyer, to whom the piece is also dedicated.

The inspiration for my composition came from the new combination of different recorders with viola, with which the two musicians and their way of performing music open up a fresh world of sound full of fantasy. Dorothee Oberlinger and Nils Mönkemeyer inspired me through this to compose for their new duo project. The main theme of their musical concept is dedicated to the dance throughout the centuries.

For Dance for two, I was inspired by Greek rhythms and timbres. As a result, the piece combines traditional and modern elements.
The dramaturgy of the composition is made up of short, differently rhythmic parts that are repeated in varying ways and sequences. This leads to an exhilarating dance, which resounds as a brilliant ending.
