From 2003 – 2008 Konstantia Gourzi directed the chamber music series of Siemens Arts Program „Junge Solisten“ (Young Soloists) in Munich, dedicated to contemporary music.
The Project
The Young Soloists concert series has been an institution for new music lovers in Munich since 2002. Konstantia Gourzi took over its artistic direction in 2003. She developed this series – originally intended for Siemens workers – to a pillar of musical life in Munich. The monthly concerts attracted much acclaim owing to their exceptional artistic quality. Artists making their new music debut here have included Nils Mönkemeyer, Henry Bonamy, Amira Quartett, Elias Grandy, Julia Rutigliano, Claudio Estay, and many more who are internationally-renowned today.
The impartment through introductions and the performance of music from the 20th and 21st century is central to the Siemens Arts Program (today Siemens Foundation) concert series, which is carried out in collaboration with the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
The next generation of musicians – the “Young Soloists” – have the opportunity here to present their experience of new music, and to transmit their joy and enthusiasm for it to audiences. It was also very important to Konstantia Gourzi to programme regular world premieres by young composers, for example Anno Schreier, Evan Gardner, Markus Lehmann-Horn, Johannes X. Schachtner, and Samy Moussa.
