Ensemble-Echo

The project

The ensemble echo (now Echo Ensemble) was founded in 1997 at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and is one of the training orchestras of the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. When it was founded, it was one of the first ensembles for contemporary music at a German music academy. Konstantia Gourzi was the ensemble’s artistic director for many years and developed concert series such as “concerto fresco” and “Anschläge”. From the very beginning, the focus of the regularly organized concerts was on music literature for chamber ensemble and chamber orchestra of the 20th century and the present. Conceptually, contemporary compositions were compiled and interpreted in relation to a larger cultural or political theme.

In her search for new concert formats and collaborations for ensemble echo, Konstantia Gourzi has initiated and successfully realized projects with the Konzerthaus Berlin, WDR Cologne, the Hamburg Musikhochschule, the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Akademie der Künste and the Guggenheim Museum, among others.
