Composer’s notes

“Sängerin der Komischen Oper” was the first piece that I composed for viola solo for Nils Mönkemeyer. Paul Klee’s painting served as an inspiration. The piece is full of musical humour, also reflected in the titles of the seven miniatures. It is a description of my musical perception of the painting: on the one hand its serene atmosphere and on the other hand its artistic perfection and absurdity that fascinates me about Paul Klee’s work.
